Croatian national parks price by season, and the season ends on the last day of September. The drop on 1 October is the single largest change in the cost of a Croatian holiday all year, and it lands exactly when the parks are at their best: fewer people on the boardwalks, autumn colour in the beech forest, and water levels rising again after the summer.

Where the saving really shows
Take a family of two adults and two children aged 7 to 18 at Plitvice. In September that day costs 112 euro at the gate. From 1 October the same family pays 60 euro, since the child ticket falls from 16 to 6.50 euro. That is 52 euro saved on tickets alone, before the cheaper accommodation and the parking that no longer needs to be hunted for.
What you give up
Shorter days, mostly. October daylight in the interior runs to about 18:00, and the last entry times move with it, so a full circuit of the upper and lower lakes needs an early start. Boat and shuttle services inside the parks keep running on a reduced timetable, and the swimming that Krka once allowed is no longer permitted at all, so that is not the loss it used to be. Check the current opening hours the week before you go: the parks publish them monthly and they shift with the light.
