Anything from 24 degrees upwards swims comfortably for most people. Below 20 the Adriatic feels bracing even in sunshine, and the bura can drop the surface temperature by several degrees in a day.

How to read these numbers
Every station is a fixed measuring point of the Croatian meteorological service, usually in a harbour or at a bathing spot, and the reading is taken close to the surface. In a sheltered bay the water can be a degree or two warmer than at the station a few kilometres away, and near a river mouth, as around Omiš or the Neretva delta, it is noticeably cooler.
The Adriatic warms from the south and from the surface down. In spring the southern islands lead, by high summer the shallow bays of Kvarner and Istria catch up, and in autumn the deep water off Dalmatia holds its warmth longest. A day of bura mixes cold water up from below and can drop a reading by several degrees; a few calm days bring it back.
