Austria's 2027 vignette for the Croatia drive: buy by 31 December

For anyone driving to Croatia through Austria in 2027, 31 December 2026 is the date to remember. The motorway operator ASFINAG announced the price of the 2027 annual vignette on 25 October: from 1 January 2027 it costs 108.90 euros. Anyone who buys the digital 2027 annual vignette by 31 December 2026 at the latest still pays the current price of 106.80 euros. The same applies to customers with an existing vignette subscription (ASFINAG). According to ASFINAG, sales start in early November and the new vignette is valid from 1 December 2026. This affects holidaymakers from Germany and Switzerland heading for the Adriatic, for example via the Tauern or Pyhrn motorway, and Austrians driving to Croatia as well.

Two per cent more, digital only

The increase is two per cent. According to Vorarlberg Online a rise of 3.6 per cent had been planned, and the federal government capped it at two per cent as part of its fee brake. The gap between the old and the new price is 2.10 euros. The ASFINAG announcement does not yet give 2027 prices for the 10-day, 2-month and 1-day vignettes. In 2026 they cost 12.80, 32.00 and 9.60 euros according to ÖAMTC, and the annual motorcycle vignette 42.70 euros.

The sticker ends with the 2027 vignette year. From 1 December 2026 Austria sells no more sticker vignettes, and from 1 February 2027 only the digital vignette is valid on motorways and expressways (ASFINAG). It is linked to the number plate. A 2026 annual sticker already on the windscreen stays valid until 31 January 2027. According to ÖAMTC the 2027 annual vignette runs from 1 December 2026 to 31 January 2028, 14 months, whatever day you buy it.

What it means for visitors

• Advent at the end of November: If you drive to the opening of Advent in Zagreb on 28 November, you travel before 1 December. That trip needs the 2026 vignette, for example the 10-day vignette for 12.80 euros. The 2027 vignette only applies from 1 December. • Buying early costs you no days: The validity of the 2027 annual vignette is fixed. Buying in November or December locks in 106.80 euros, and the vignette still runs until the end of January 2028.
• Order online in good time: According to ÖAMTC a purchase in the ASFINAG web shop comes with the statutory 18-day withdrawal period, and the vignette only becomes valid after it. Bought directly at an ÖAMTC branch, it is valid at once. If you order online just before Christmas, allow for the 18 days.
• Do the maths: At 2026 prices a two-week holiday in Croatia needs two 10-day vignettes for 25.60 euros. The annual vignette pays off from the fifth such trip in a year, and for short trips with a single 10-day vignette from the ninth.
• Slovenia and Croatia come on top: Via Slovenia you also need the Slovenian e-vignette, in Croatia you pay tolls by distance, and in Austria the tunnel tolls for the Tauern and Karawanken tunnels are extra.
