Split's city Advent stalls have maximum prices for 2026: mulled wine 3 euros, fritule 4 euros, a hot dog 3 euros. Pula caps prices too, with different limits. Both lists compared.
Checked: 28 October 2026, 14:20
Anyone heading to Split for Advent will pay no more than 3 euros for a mulled wine at the city's stalls. Žnjan, the city-owned company that runs the Christmas market, has written maximum prices for seven basic items into the 2026 terms for stallholders, from fritule to water (Žnjan d.o.o.). The call for stallholders opened on 28 October (City of Split). The stalls on the Riva, the Prokurative and in Đardin open on 27 November and stay until 6 January 2027; in Stobreč they run from 11 December to 4 January.
Depending on the type of stall, holders must put these items on the menu and sell them for the whole opening hours, in a fixed minimum portion. A mulled wine is therefore at least 0.2 litres and a portion of fritule at least 150 grams. Prices have to be displayed clearly at the stall. Stallholders who break the terms risk losing their contract. Checks can be made by Žnjan staff, stewards and municipal wardens.

Price caps in Split and Pula
Split is not alone. Pula has also written price caps into the call for its Advent stalls, which run from 29 November to 6 January, and its list is longer (Pula Film Festival). The table puts both lists side by side, each with the minimum portion the price applies to.
| Item | Split | Pula |
|---|---|---|
| Mulled wine (0.2 l) | €3 | €3 |
| Hot chocolate (0.2 l) | €3 | €3 |
| Tea (0.2 l) | €2.50 | €2 |
| Water (0.5 l) | €2 | €2 |
| Fritule | €4 (150 g) | €3 (120 g) |
| Hot dog (80 g sausage) | €3 | €5 |
| Sausage (80 g) | €3 | no cap |
| Burger (80 g meat) | no cap | €5 |
| Bakalar salt cod (100 g with bread) | no cap | €5 |
| Pancakes (120 g) | no cap | €3 |
| Christmas biscuits (100 g) | no cap | €3 |
In Pula the maximum price is the final price. Extra charges for cups, packaging or service are explicitly banned, and every stall has to accept both cash and cards for the whole opening hours. A first breach brings a warning from the organiser; after a second one it can end the lease without notice.

What it means for visitors
- Only at the city's stalls: the caps cover the leased stalls on the Riva, the Prokurative, in Đardin and in Stobreč. Cafés and restaurants along the Riva set their own prices.
- Check the portion: the price is for at least 0.2 litres of mulled wine, 150 grams of fritule and an 80 gram sausage.
- Split against Pula: fritule are a euro cheaper in Pula, while a hot dog costs 2 euros less in Split. Mulled wine is capped at 3 euros in both.
- Late nights: on the Riva and the Prokurative the stalls open from 9:00 to 23:30 on weekdays, until 1:00 on Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of holidays, and until 3:00 on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. In Đardin, home of the ice rink, they close at 23:00 every day.
Who gets a stall
Businesses registered in Croatia can apply until 14:00 on 6 November (Žnjan d.o.o.). The selection is due on visitsplit.com by 9 November, with contracts by 20 November. The highest rent no longer wins on its own: the bid is worth 60 of 100 points and the food 40, split into 15 for Dalmatian dishes, 15 for variety and quality and 10 for local and regional produce (Index.hr). The Riva gets 11 stalls, 4 for food, 2 for sweets and 5 for packaged goods, with 8 more on the Prokurative, 2 in Đardin and 3 in Stobreč. Opening rents for the season run from 800 euros in Stobreč to 6,500 euros on the Prokurative, plus VAT.
