Split's Riva turned pink on Sunday, 4 October 2026, for the eighth Race for the Cure, a charity run and walk against breast cancer. Around 7,000 people had registered, a record for Split, among them more than 300 teams and pupils from 21 schools, and by the start at 11:00 the race had raised 98,000 euros (Slobodna Dalmacija, Dalmacija Danas).
Where the money goes
The main goal is an MRI scanner used only for cancer patients at Split's hospital, KBC Split, to speed up diagnosis and care. Part of the money is meant for a mobile mammography unit that can bring screening to rural areas and the islands, and for cold gloves and socks that ease the nerve damage caused by chemotherapy. The race is organised by the County League Against Cancer in Split (Dalmacija News, Slobodna Dalmacija).
The route and the day
The course ran from the Riva past the church of St Francis along Trumbićeva obala, Obala kneza Branimira and the Meštrović promenade to the entrance of Vila Dalmacija, then back the same way; those streets were closed from 11:00 to 11:45. The programme on the Riva started at 9:15, singer Meri Cetinić performed, mayor Tomislav Šuta joined the walk, and the largest team came from the MIOC grammar school with around 280 pupils.
