The 9th Mediterranean Book Festival (MFK) runs from Wednesday 23 to Sunday 27 September 2026 in the Great Hall of the Gripe Sports Centre (ŠC Gripe, Osječka 11, Split). Entry is free. Opening hours are 10:00–20:00 on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday and 10:00–21:00 on Friday and Saturday. Special guest Jo Nesbø presents his novel “Završni kadar” on Saturday 26 September at 19:00, followed by a book signing from 20:00 to 21:00. The daily programme and the list of exhibitors are on mfk.hr.
MFK is Split’s autumn book-fair week: five days of publishers, launches, author talks and a children’s programme in the hall locals know as Gripe. If you are coming for the books or for Nesbø, plan ahead and check mfk.hr before you go, as programme times can change during the festival.

Entry is free.
Expect crowds on Saturday for Jo Nesbø. Arrive early; there may be a queue and limited seating. Confirm the schedule and any organiser notes on mfk.hr just before you go.
Jo Nesbø (Saturday 26 Sep)
Norwegian author Jo Nesbø appears on Saturday 26 September 2026:
- 19:00: presentation of the novel “Završni kadar” (the 14th Harry Hole novel)
- 20:00–21:00: book signing
Nesbø is returning to Split, having previously appeared here in 2018. For a seat nearer the stage or a signature, arrive early and follow the daily schedule on mfk.hr.
What to expect
MFK mixes a book fair with a festival programme: publisher stands, new-title launches, author talks, panels and creative workshops for children and young people. Books are sold at special fair prices throughout, with discounts on both new and older titles; check the signs at each stand and the recommendations on mfk.hr.
Exhibitors include Fraktura, V.B.Z., Profil knjiga, Znanje, Mozaik knjiga, Splitski kantun, Književni krug Split and many smaller presses; the full list is on mfk.hr.

How to reach Gripe
ŠC Gripe (Osječka 11) lies east of the centre: from the Old Town it is a short taxi or Uber ride, a city bus journey or a walk, depending on where you start. For bus lines and timetables, check Promet Split (promet-split.hr) or a local map before you leave.
By car: Gripe has a sports-centre car park, but it gets busy at weekends and on the Nesbø evening, so walk or use public transport if you can. A bag that closes is practical for books; bring cash and card (smaller stands sometimes prefer one or the other).
