Rijeka has its Hotel Jadran back. The seafront hotel in the Pećine district, east of the centre, opened in the week of 19 October 2026 after its renovation, Novi list reports. Its name is now Jadran, Rijeka, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, and it is the first hotel of this Marriott brand in Croatia. The Jadran hoteli group runs it with 67 rooms and three apartments, and it keeps its four-star rating. The hotel is to stay open all year. That matters for anyone heading to Rijeka for a city break, for Advent or for the Carnival.

A 1914 hotel under a new brand

The Jadran first opened in 1914 and stands on the Šetalište XIII. divizije shore road, right above the water. Jadran hoteli Rijeka signed the deal with Marriott International in 2024; at the time the chain was majority owned by Gold Tree Hospitality, according to the announcement (Hospitality Net). The reopening was then planned for early 2025. The work took longer than announced.

Amsterdam designer Saar Zafrir did the interiors, the restaurant and the lounge bar, and the architectural design of the renovation is by Saša Randić. Deep blue, the colour of the sea, runs through the rooms and corridors. A work by Edo Murtić still hangs in the 80-seat conference room. The writer Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić once stayed in room 306. The lobby now has a small library with her books and with Croatian authors in English translation.

doca: a restaurant open to everyone

The restaurant, bar and lounge is called doca, and it is meant for people from outside the hotel as well. Breakfast runs from 6:30 to 10:00, lunch until 15:00 (15:30 at weekends) and dinner from 18:00 to 23:00. According to the hotel, a good share of the produce comes from local suppliers. For visitors staying elsewhere in Rijeka, it is a place on the water for a late breakfast or a dinner looking out over Kvarner Bay.

What it means for visitors

  • Open all year: outside the summer the hotel is counting on business travellers, independent travellers and short city breaks, chief executive Kristian Šustar told Novi list. That gives Rijeka a hotel right on the sea in winter too. Advent dates along the coast are on our page Advent on the Croatian coast.
  • Carnival 2027: the season opens on 17 January and the big international parade is on Sunday 7 February 2027. Anyone coming for the parade should book early; dates and the programme are in our Rijeka Carnival guide.
  • Marriott Bonvoy: with the brand, the hotel is linked to Marriott's international booking channels and to the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty programme. Members will find the Jadran in the Marriott system.
  • By car: anyone driving on from Rijeka to Opatija has to allow for the closure at the Matulji junction until 12 December (Matulji detour). From 15 November winter equipment is compulsory on the designated winter routes, including the A6 to Rijeka (winter tyres in Croatia).
  • The beaches: Pećine is the city's bathing district in the east. Our guide Rijeka: what to see covers the bathing spots from Sablićevo to Kostrena and the city buses out there.
