Vodice belongs to the beach until seven and to the street after. Klapa singers and a pot of šaša on the quay, a wishing well with a rose in it, a ferris wheel over the boats. Three August evenings, photographed as they happened.
Checked: 23 August 2026
Every guide to Vodice describes the beach and the boat to Prvić. That is the day. The evening is a different town: the quay fills at seven, the alleys fill at nine, and the programme on the waterfront runs on into the night, most of it free and none of it announced anywhere a visitor would look. These photographs are from three consecutive evenings in August 2026, and this is the order the town does things in.

Seven: the quay, and a pot on the table

Eight: the square, and a rose in a well
- 20:00Bunar želja, the wishing well
In the middle of the main square stands a round stone well with a glass lid, and under the glass a lace net holds a few hundred coins and one red rose. The sign explains what the coins are for: Vodice calls itself the city of flowers, and the money goes to keeping it that way. Nobody points it out, most people walk past it on their way to an ice cream.

By day the same square is the town's living room, with the cafés under the bell tower and a bench in the shade for whoever gets there first.
Nine: the alleys fill up
- 21:00The painter, the paintings, the string of lights
The lane behind the waterfront turns into a gallery after dark: canvases on easels along the wall, more of them strung up between the houses, and the painter sitting at the end of the row working on the next one. The restaurant tables start where the pictures stop, and by nine both sides are full.

Ten: the stage on the waterfront
- 21:00A concert you did not book a ticket for
Through August the town puts a stage on the waterfront and books names that fill halls elsewhere. On 22 August it was Vanna, and the crowd stood three deep in flip-flops holding phones over their heads. There is no ticket and no seating: you walk past on your way to dinner and stay for an hour.
Eleven: the wheel, and whatever else is out

And then there is whatever the evening produces on its own. Two parrots on a bike rack, for instance, sitting there as if that were the arrangement.
