Pula sets maximum prices for Advent 2026: every food stall must offer a basic selection, with a hot dog, hamburger or bakalar for no more than 5 euros and mulled wine, cocoa or fritule for no more than 3 euros. Advent runs from 29 November to 6 January.

Anyone visiting Pula's Advent this winter will find a small selection at fixed maximum prices at every food stall. A hot dog, hamburger or bakalar costs no more than 5 euros, mulled wine, hot chocolate or cocoa no more than 3 euros, tea and water 2 euros, and fritule, filled pancakes or Christmas biscuits 3 euros. The caps are set in the call for stall tenants that the organiser, the public institution Pula Film Festival, published for the city. Advent in Pula runs from 29 November 2026 to 6 January 2027, with stalls inside the Arena by the ice rink, in front of the Arena and in Titov park.

The rule responds to the prices of recent seasons. In a report by Index.hr, one Pula resident complained about paying 10 euros for a sausage. Poreč has sold part of its Advent menu at capped prices for years, a representative of the town of Poreč told the portal.

The maximum prices

  • Hot dog with at least 80 g of sausage: 5 euros
  • Hamburger with at least 80 g of meat: 5 euros
  • Bakalar (dried cod), at least 100 g with bread: 5 euros
  • Mulled wine (kuhano vino), hot chocolate or cocoa, at least 0.2 l: 3 euros
  • Tea (at least 0.2 l) or water (at least 0.5 l): 2 euros
  • Fritule or filled pancakes, at least 120 g: 3 euros
  • Christmas biscuits, at least 100 g: 3 euros

How the rule works

The stalls fall into three groups. Savoury stalls must carry one dish and two drinks from the list, sweet stalls one dessert and two drinks, mixed stalls one dish, one dessert and two drinks. These items carry an asterisk (*) on the price board and must be available for the whole opening time. The cap is the final price: compulsory extra charges for cups, packaging or service are banned. Optional extras the guest chooses may cost more.

Everything else on the menu is priced by the stallholders themselves, Pula's deputy mayor Siniša Gordić told Index.hr. One long-standing stallholder said there that his 100 g sausage will stay at 6 to 7 euros, as last year, and that he will add a hot dog at the set price. Breaking the caps brings a warning first. After a repeat, the organiser may end the lease at once and keep the rent.

What it means for visitors

Look for the asterisk: it marks the capped items, and the price board has to explain what it means. Every stall must accept both cash and cards for its whole opening time. Frying and grilling are banned inside the Arena and allowed only at the other two locations.

The three stalls in the Arena open Sunday to Thursday from 10:00 to 22:00 and on Friday and Saturday from 10:00 to 23:00. The stalls in front of the Arena and in Titov park must open from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 16:00 to 21:00 and may stay open until midnight at the latest.

Who runs the stalls will be known in early November: applications for the 16 stalls close on 30 October, and the leases are auctioned on 6 November at Kino Valli. Starting rents range from 2,500 to 6,500 euros plus VAT for the whole season. Dates for the other coastal towns are in our Advent guide for the coast, and ideas for the daytime in our Pula one-day guide.
