Driving an electric car down the A1 to the Adriatic, or along the A3 towards Slavonia, now means more fast chargers on the way. Fuel retailer Petrol has opened 18 new ultra-fast charging points at four motorway rest areas: Desinec sjever and Janjče zapad on the A1, and Dragalić jug and Dragalić sjever on the A3. The company announced the opening on 29 October 2026, index.hr reports.

Six of the 18 points deliver 400 kW and are meant for electric trucks. How fast a car actually charges depends on the vehicle and the battery's state of charge, Petrol says. The chargers belong to the EU project CROSS-E and are co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility. Under it, Petrol plans 98 charging points at 22 locations in Croatia and Slovenia. Fast chargers at the Vrata Jadrana rest areas (both sides) and at Dragalić sjever already opened in the summer. Petrol says it runs more than 300 charging points in Croatia, over 70 of them ultra-fast.

The suffixes sjever (north), jug (south) and zapad (west) refer to the side of the motorway. For Desinec and Janjče, Petrol names only one side. Before setting off, check the map in the OneCharge app or on petrol.hr to see whether the charger is on your side of the road.

What it means for visitors

On the A1 to the coast there are now two new Petrol sites on the route: Desinec just after Zagreb and Janjče in Lika. Heading along the A3 to Slavonia, Bosnia or Serbia, you can charge at Dragalić on both sides. Some sums based on the price list:

  • 40 kWh at a fast charger: 29.20 euros without an account, 26.40 euros with one. Registering saves just under 10 percent.
  • At a consumption of 18 kWh per 100 kilometres, fast-charged power costs 13.14 euros per 100 kilometres without an account and 11.88 euros with one.
  • Stay plugged in at a fast charger for an hour over lunch and the 20 minutes after minute 40 add 3 euros. Petrol charges the fee even if the battery is not yet full.
  • Other operators on Croatian motorways set their own prices. The figures above apply to Petrol only.
