Twenty years of films from the countries the Danube runs through
The Vukovar Film Festival reaches its twentieth edition from 2 to 5 September 2026. Its remit has been the same since the start: films from the Danube countries, a stretch of Europe that shares a river and not much else in the way of a common film industry. Online sales through Entrio opened on 11 August, the festival box office on 28 August.
The town it happens in
The water tower on the Danube bank was shot to pieces in the siege of 1991 and has been left that way on purpose, restored only enough to be climbed, with the damage kept visible. It is the tallest thing in town and the first thing you see. A festival of Danube cinema in this particular town is not a neutral choice, and it does not pretend to be one.
