Vukovar sits where the Vuka meets the Danube, at the eastern edge of Croatia, and for most people outside the country the name belongs to 1991. Since 2007 it has also had a film festival, dedicated to cinema from the Danube countries: Croatia, Serbia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Austria, Slovakia and the rest of the river. The 20th edition runs from 2 to 5 September 2026.
Tickets, and when
- Online through Entrio, from 11 August until 5 September. That is the only online channel.
- The box office in town sells from 28 August until 5 September, so from a few days before the first screening.
- The programme was published on 16 August, so the full list of screenings is out well before you need to book.
What runs in competition
The competition covers feature films and shorts, feature-length documentaries and animation, and the side programme adds screenings for children and retrospectives. The selection leans on films that have already won something at the bigger festivals, which is the practical reason to come: four days condensed from a year of European cinema, in a town small enough to walk between the venues.
