A town that puts its walls back into service

Koprivnica keeps the earthworks of its renaissance fortifications, and for four days in August they are used for what they were built for. The 19th edition runs from 20 to 23 August 2026 and fills the ramparts with knights, masters of crafts nobody practises any more, court fools, medieval musicians and food cooked to recipes some centuries old.

The night attack on the town

The set piece is fought after dark: fire balls and burning arrows against the ramparts, cannon, muskets and arquebuses. It is loud, it smells of powder, and it is the reason people come back. The rest of the bill is international: the mounted tournament of the Hector knights from Slovakia, the Markus M company from the Czech Republic, the Pipers of Transylvania from Romania, and the flag throwers and drummers of Palmanova.

Tickets, food, and which day

Thursday is free. From Friday to Sunday a day ticket costs five euros and children up to twelve get in for nothing. Thursday is therefore the cheapest and the calmest, Saturday the fullest. Eat on site: carp split on a forked stick over the fire is the local dish and it is cooked in the open where you can watch it happen.
