Novigrad Lapidarium

A museum of stone fragments from the former episcopal cathedral.

Sight

Why it is worth your time

The lapidarium holds stone fragments from the eighth to the eleventh century, found in and around the Novigrad cathedral: interlace carving, altar screens, inscriptions. The building was purpose-built, concrete and restrained, and it won architecture awards precisely because it does not imitate what it displays. The display is small and clear, and for understanding pre-Romanesque Istria it is worth more than any church you will find locked.
