Grad od riječi Dubrovnik 2026: 24–25 Sep, TUP Gruž, 3rd edition

The third edition of the literary and cultural festival Grad od riječi runs on 24 and 25 September 2026 at TUP in Gruž (Dubrovnik). It is organised by the Dubrovnik branch of Matica hrvatska. The festival opens on Thursday 24 Sep at 19:00 with the panel “Baštinska vrijednost pisane riječi: dubrovački prirodoslovci”, plus the exhibition “Faust Vrančić – Machinae novae”. Friday is a full day: workshops, talks, launches and a book fair. The entry price has not been published, so check with the organiser or at TUP before you go.

The festival brings together literature, heritage and publishing in Gruž, the harbour quarter outside the Old Town walls. If you only have one evening or can only come on Friday: Thursday has the opening at 19:00, while Friday is the fuller day, with a children’s programme in the morning and a panel in the evening.

• 19:00 Opening panel on Dubrovnik naturalists (Nenad Jasprica, Dubravka Tulio, Katarina Ivanišin and Irena Ipšić)
• The opening is hosted by Ivana Grkeš Tošović, president of the Dubrovnik branch of Matica hrvatska, with certificates of thanks presented to partners
• Exhibition “Faust Vrančić – Machinae novae” in TUP’s Kontrapogon

Programme 25 Sep (Friday): highlights

The full-day programme includes workshops, literary talks, book launches and a book fair with Dubrovnik Museums (DUMUS), the Society of Friends of Dubrovnik Antiquities (DPDS), the University of Dubrovnik (UNIDU), Matica hrvatska and its Dubrovnik branch. Highlights:

• 10:00 Dom Marina Držića: launch of a children’s guide to the museum (a free publication; presented by Nikša Matić and Valerija Jurjević)
• 10:00 Centre for children, young people and families: kamishibai storytelling of Snow White (Vanja Balent)
• 11:15 Story and workshop “Dubrovnik greats – Paskoje Miličević” (Hana Čerimagić Sarić and Lucijana Pendo)
• 12:00 Poetry at noon (pupils from three Dubrovnik grammar schools)
• 16:30 Love bar: talk by Andrea Oberan
• 17:00 Launch of the journal Dubrovnik (issues 3–4/2025 and 1–2/2026) in the passage under the library (TUP)
• 18:00 Presentation of the English edition of “Ruđer Josip Bošković: Scientist, Man of Letters, Diplomat” (Ruđer Bošković Foundation)
• 19:00 Panel “Male žene” (Staša Aras, Mariela Marković, Iris Gadžić; moderated by Ivana Grkeš Tošović and Danijela Crljen)

The entry price has not been published, so check with the organiser or at TUP. The word “free” in the programme refers to the museum publication “Marinov muzej”, not to festival entry.

How to reach TUP (Gruž)

TUP is in Gruž, in the harbour area, not inside the Old Town walls. From the Old Town, take a city bus or a taxi for the short ride to the port in Gruž; Libertas, the city bus company, has the line numbers. If you drive, expect harbour traffic and limited parking.
