Bat Night at the Barać Caves

An evening for the animals that live in the cave the rest of the year

International Bat Night is marked at the Barać caves near Rakovica on 29 August 2026 with workshops, a programme for children, music and film. The caves are a working habitat, not a set: several bat species roost here, and the point of the evening is that visitors get to see them leave at dusk rather than read about them on a sign.

Combine it with Plitvice

Rakovica is half an hour by car from the Plitvice lakes and a fraction of the crowd. If you are in the park that day, leave in the afternoon, eat in the village and be at the caves before dark. Take a jacket; a cave holds its temperature no matter what August is doing outside.
