Chocolate on a promenade built for the Habsburgs
Opatija was the Riviera of the Austro-Hungarian empire, a winter resort for Vienna with hotels to match, and the Lungomare was laid along the water so that guests could walk without effort. From 6 to 8 November 2026 that promenade and the parks behind it fill with confectioners, tastings, workshops and chocolate sculptures.
November on this coast
Opatija in November is mild, empty and cheap, which is the combination the rest of the year does not offer. The hotels that were built for winter guests still work in winter, the Lungomare is walkable in a coat, and Rijeka with its market and its museums is fifteen minutes by bus. The chocolate is the reason to come; the town is the reason to stay two nights.
