Seven days of gravel under Croatia's highest mountain
The Dinaric Rally is an amateur enduro run, not a race with a podium: seven days on forest tracks, gravel roads and mountain paths in the massif behind Knin. Dinara gives the country its highest point, Sinjal at 1,831 metres, and the karst around it is empty in a way the coast an hour away never is.
Knin as a base
The fortress above the town is one of the largest in Croatia and worth the climb on a rest day: the walls run along a ridge with the Krka below on one side and the Dinara wall on the other. The town itself is unpretty and unbothered by tourism, which for a week of riding is exactly the right kind of base.
