Velika Kolombarica

A rocky cove on Kamenjak, known for cliff jumping.

Activity Hidden gem

Why it is worth your time

Velika Kolombarica is the best-known cove of Kamenjak and the place that made the cape famous among younger visitors: a notch in the white cliff on the south-western shore, with vertical rocks from five to fifteen metres high and with a sea directly below that is deep and dark blue. People have jumped here for centuries, and today Kolombarica is one of Croatia's best-known cliff-jumping spots, with positions of different heights the locals know by heart. For all who do not jump, the cove is just as good: in the rock are natural sunbathing terraces, ladders for entering the sea and a safari bar hidden in the maquis a few steps away, with music and shade beneath the branches.

Serious rules apply: jump only where jumping is done, never on a first visit without checking the depth, never alone and never after drinking. Kolombarica is reached by bicycle or by car on gravel, and the best moment is the late afternoon.

Croatia Atlas tip

Check the depth and the bottom before jumping, every single year.
