After more than two weeks of fire crossing from Bosnia into Konavle and Župa dubrovačka, the last active front at Duba Konavoska was declared fully extinguished on 2 September. Pelješac, where the August fire between Kuna and Potomje burned a church, is quiet. Roads and beaches are open; the burned hills are not.

Status as of 3 September 2026. The Croatian firefighting association HVZ reported on 2 September that the open-space fire which had spread from Bosnia and Herzegovina onto Croatian territory at Duba Konavoska was completely extinguished. It was the last of a series: the first crossing at Ivanica burned from 18 to 24 August, two more fires stood for days on inaccessible ground along the border above Župa dubrovačka and Konavle, and for about ten days people from Prevlaka to Dubrovnik woke up to smoke. Canadair water bombers flew daily and around fifty firefighters held the lines on the ground; no houses were lost on the Croatian side.
Pelješac: out, but the marks stay
The large fire on the peninsula in mid-August ran through the vineyards between Kuna Pelješka and Potomje, the heart of the Dingač and Postup wine country, and destroyed the church in Potomje. It was contained after several days with aircraft and crews from Konavle to Metković, and there has been no new outbreak since. The wine road is open and the harvest is under way; what you will see are black slopes above the road and vineyards with scorched edges. Wineries in Potomje are receiving visitors and could use them.
For visitors this week
- All roads in the Dubrovnik region are open, including the Adriatic road through Župa and Konavle and the Pelješac bridge. HAK lists any short closure for firefighting within minutes.
- Beaches at Cavtat, Mlini, Srebreno and Plat were never closed; the smoke has gone with the bura of the last two days.
- Stay off the burned hills above Konavle and on Pelješac for now: the ground is unstable, roots keep smouldering, and the trails are not yet checked. Sniježnica and the Konavle cliffs path are the usual walks and both were spared.
- The fire season is not over. Open flames outdoors remain banned along the coast until the autumn rains, and 193 is the number for the fire brigade, 112 for everything else.
