Croatian inspectors sealed 54 unregistered apartments, rooms and holiday homes for at least 30 days each. Guests inside had to leave. The check takes two minutes and works before you pay.

The state inspectorate carried out 1.656 checks on holiday accommodation this season and found 149 cases of letting without registration or advertising without a permit. In 54 of them the property was sealed on the spot, for a minimum of thirty days: 47 apartments, 15 holiday homes, six rooms, two campsites and one hostel. Whoever was staying there had to pack.

The two-minute check
- Since 20 May 2026 every unit needs a registration number under EU regulation 2024/1028, issued through the Croatian eTourism system. Platforms are obliged to collect and show it.
- On the listing, look for that number. No number, no booking: that is the single strongest signal.
- On arrival the host registers you in eVisitor within 24 hours and the tourist tax appears on your bill. A host who skips both is not registered.
- Pay through the platform, never by bank transfer to a private account before arrival. If the property is sealed, only a platform booking gets your money back.
If it happens anyway: the platform is liable for a replacement, and the tourist board of the town keeps a list of registered hosts with free capacity. The number to call is the local tourist office, not the police.
