Heavy metal in a building that predates it by two thousand years

Judas Priest play the Arena in Pula on 25 August 2026, stage at eight. The band has been at this since 1969 and effectively wrote the visual grammar of the genre, and the Roman oval gives them the one thing an arena tour normally cannot buy: stone that throws sound back, and a sky instead of a ceiling.

Before and after

Get to Pula in the afternoon and walk the underground passages of the Arena, where the gladiators and animals were held and an exhibition on Istrian oil and wine now stands. After the show the old town is five minutes on foot and stays open; the Forum with its Temple of Augustus is the obvious place to end up, and it is lit at night.
