A chain of five lakes, the first dug in 1839, forms the heart of Maksimir's idyll. Around the still water, paths lead past swans, ducks and turtles basking on branches. The loveliest part of the park for an easy loop, a photo or a pause on a lakeside bench.
Walk the lakeside loop in late afternoon when the swans and turtles are out and the light is golden.
