Why it is worth your time
On a quiet Upper Town lane, the 17th-century house where Ivan Meštrović lived and worked is now an intimate museum of his art. Bronze and stone figures fill the rooms and a leafy sculpture courtyard: the muscular, tender work of the man Rodin called the greatest phenomenon among sculptors. Far calmer than the big galleries, and more moving.
