Cape Savudrija

Why it is worth your time

Cape Savudrija is Croatia's westernmost point and one of those places remembered for having nothing there but landscape: a low rocky shore without sand, without hotels and without arranged beaches, with flat stone slabs on which to lay a towel and with a sea that deepens at once. North of the cape Slovenia begins, and across the bay Piran is seen at both times of day: a white bell tower by day, lights by night. On clear days the horizon reaches the Alps, and at dusk the sun sets directly into the sea, for this is Croatia's only shore facing west without islands before it.

Bathing is for those who love clean sea without facilities: no showers, no bars, only stone, wind and pines in the hinterland. The cape is reached by the road from Savudrija, and one parks along the way. By the cape itself stands the Adriatic's oldest lighthouse, so the visit naturally joins into one outing.
