Why it is worth your time

Komrcar Park is the green balcony of Rab's old town: a garden planted at the end of the 19th century on a former pasture, today a century-old forest of Aleppo pines, cypresses and holm oaks that embraces the town walls from the land side and descends toward the sea. The credit belongs to the forester Pravdoje Belia, whose name the park remembers with pride: his pines are today as tall as the bell towers and hold shade that cannot be bought in summer. The paths walk in three directions: the upper toward the town, the middle through dense forest with benches and a children's corner, the lower to the seaside promenade and the bathing spots below the park, so Komrcar also works as the loveliest way to the beach Rab has.

This is also the stage of the locals' evening stroll, with a view of the bell towers through the crowns and of the Velebit across the channel. Entry is free from all sides, with ground for running and for prams alike. The best moment: late afternoon, when the sun drops low, the pine resin scents the air and the bells carry from town; the Adriatic hardly offers a calmer hour.
