Nin Healing Mud

Why it is worth your time

The Nin mud is a natural spa without a building: deposits of healing peloid in the lagoon by the Queen's beach, where the black sea mud has been smeared on the skin for centuries against rheumatic troubles, inflammations and skin problems. The method is as simple as the sight: mud is scooped from the marked fields, spread over the body, left to dry in the sun for some twenty minutes, then washed off in the lagoon's warm shallows. In summer a seasonal point with basic instructions works by the site; the rest of the year the mud is simply there, free, as centuries before.

Nin's spa tradition reaches deep, Roman finds testify to it too, for the lagoon's healing properties were known to antiquity. A common-sense medical note: the mud is not for open wounds, and with serious troubles the doctor is the address, not the lagoon. For everyone else this is the region's most amusing free attraction: whole families stand black as statues waiting to dry, with laughter heard across half the beach. Bring wet wipes just in case, and hand the phone to whoever has not yet smeared themselves.
