Stomarica Cove

A small cove among rocks and pines, favoured by locals for calmer bathing.

Activity Hidden gem

Why it is worth your time

Stomarica is the kind of cove locals do not put in catalogues: a small drawn-in inlet between Podrace and Soline, with shingle, smooth rock slabs for sunbathing and pines growing right down to the water. Because of its position among the points, the sea here is calm even when the maestral plays along the riviera, and depth comes quickly, so the cove is a favourite of swimmers and of those who prefer a jump from the rock to an entry over shingle. There are almost no facilities, and that is the point: a few loungers, a seasonal bar and a shower, bring the rest yourself.

Owing to the nearby undersea springs the water here is noticeably fresher than on the big beaches, which in August works like air-conditioning. Stomarica is reached by the coastal promenade in a few minutes from either direction, and parking is a matter of luck, so come on foot. If in Brela you seek what is rarely found in July, a place where the sea is heard instead of music, this is the right address.
