Podrace Beach

Brela's southern shingle beach with a calmer rhythm and a view of the Biokovo.

Activity

Why it is worth your time

Podrace is Brela's southern town beach and the best proof that here one need not go into the crowd to get the same sea: a long shingle strand beneath the pine forest, with an arranged part along the promenade and a wild belt toward the south, where there is always room for a towel. The shingle is finer than on Punta Rata, the entry into the sea gentle, and above the beach along its whole length rises the Biokovo, grey rock almost fifteen hundred metres high that from the sea looks like a wall: this contrast of white strand, turquoise and mountain is the signature of the Makarska riviera.

By the beach work bars, restaurants and lounger rental, and showers and cabins are spread along the promenade; the access is level, suitable for prams too. Because of its position Podrace stays in the sun longer in the afternoon than the northern coves, which suits those who start the day later. Here swimming and dinner are combined most easily: a tavern fifteen steps from the sea, grilled fish and the sun falling behind Brac.
