Why it is worth your time

One man's astonishing bequest fills this grand school-turned-museum on Roosevelt Square: paintings attributed to Raphael, Rembrandt, Velázquez and Goya, Chinese jade, Persian carpets and ancient glass, gathered by the collector Ante Topić Mimara. Sweeping and slightly mysterious, provenance debates and all, it is Zagreb's richest single hoard of world art.

Croatia Atlas tip

Go straight to the painting rooms upstairs first: that's where the Old Master highlights hang.
