Why it is worth your time

Glowing yellow at the foot of King Tomislav Square, this is the oldest purpose-built gallery in southeastern Europe: an iron-framed pavilion shipped from a Budapest exhibition in 1898 and reassembled here for major art shows. With the equestrian statue of Croatia's first king before it and the railway station beyond, it closes the Green Horseshoe in grand style.

Croatia Atlas tip

Frame your photo from the station end: the king's statue, the gardens and the golden pavilion line up perfectly.
