With its stately 19th-century facade the Croatian National Theatre commands the square at the top of Marmontova street. Under one roof, opera, ballet and drama share the season here, and the auditorium glows in red and gold. In summer the ensemble moves outdoors, playing open-air stages across the old town during the Splitsko ljeto festival.
In July and August the Splitsko ljeto festival often performs outdoors, including on the Peristyle.
