Why it is worth your time

The cathedral was created in the 7th century from Diocletian's own mausoleum. Climb the bell tower for a sweeping view over the red rooftops and the sea. As an audio stop, it works best if you slow down here: look for the stonework, the surrounding streets and the way locals move around the landmark. It gives the route a clear story beat between the postcard sights and the smaller discoveries nearby.

Croatia Atlas tip

Climb the narrow bell-tower stairs early for the best rooftop view over the palace.
