Karlovac was laid out in the 16th century as a Renaissance fortress in the shape of a six-pointed star, and the promenade follows that star: where ramparts and moats once ran, tree-lined walks now circle the old town. Walk one lap under the canopy and you have traced the town's whole ground plan, past facades, parks and everyday local life.
