Paklenica is the mountain counterweight to Zadar’s sea-level old town: from the coast you enter limestone canyons, pine shade and trails that climb deep into southern Velebit. Use this as the hub for a serious hiking day rather than a casual city stop. The park has marked routes, but heat, bora wind and daylight matter, so start early and bring water.
Best with hiking shoes, water and an early start; check the park office before long routes.
