Why it is worth your time
Behind the church of St Mary, the Benedictine sisters guard a hoard of medieval gold- and silverwork: saints' arms and skulls cased in jewelled metal, illuminated manuscripts, painted panels. For centuries they spirited it into hiding whenever armies came; today it glows in hushed, dim rooms as one of Croatia's great collections of sacred art.
