Between the town walls and the harbour, Zadar's market wakes every morning: mounds of seasonal fruit, Pag cheese, olive oil, honey and pršut, with the fish hall and its morning catch right next door. This is where you hear what Zadar really sounds like; come before noon, after that the stalls slowly melt away.
Taste before you buy: vendors happily offer a sliver of cheese or a fig, it is part of the game.
