St Mark's Tower

St Mark's Tower

The round Renaissance tower on the island's north-west corner: Kamerlengo's twin, it guarded the bridge and the approach to town.

Why it is worth your time

While Kamerlengo watched the sea, the round tower of St Mark defended the landward side: together they clamped the islet of Trogir into a defensive pair. Its thick walls and gun platforms were built for 15th-century firearms. Today the tower stands quietly in a park by the riva, and its rounded profile is one of the oldest views the town offers.

Croatia Atlas tip

Best photo of the pair: from the Čiovo bridge you catch the tower and Kamerlengo in one frame.
