Why it is worth your time
Salona was the capital of Roman Dalmatia, and its 2nd-century amphitheatre held more than 15,000 people. Today its arches and foundations stand among fields and vineyards above Solin: you walk the rim of an arena where gladiators fought, with the sea on the horizon. It anchors the western edge of the archaeological park, far from the palace crowds.
