Why it is worth your time
Rising straight out of the sea on a tiny islet, this triangular fortress was built by Venice in the 16th century to stop enemy ships from ever reaching the city. Approach it by boat or along the channel path and feel how it still commands the narrow passage. It belongs to a UNESCO group of Venetian defensive works.
