Why it is worth your time

Built in the nineteenth century as a coastal fort of the war harbour, Fort Verudela now houses the Pula Aquarium. Where soldiers once stood guard, sea creatures from the Adriatic and more distant waters drift through tanks set into the old casemates. The blend of cool fortress stone and glowing underwater worlds makes the visit special.

Croatia Atlas tip

The aquarium runs a rescue centre for sea turtles; ask about its current patients.
