A short boat ride off Pula, this car-free archipelago was Yugoslav president Tito's summer playground, and today a national park where Roman ruins and Byzantine forts share the meadows with descendants of his safari animals. Dinosaur footprints press into the coastal rock, a 1,600-year-old olive tree still fruits, and peacocks roam the lawns.
