Why it is worth your time
Pass beneath the old town gate and look up: the relief of the winged Lion of St. Mark marks five centuries of Venetian rule. The walls around it are studded with coats of arms and Roman stones, a little open-air lapidarium. Run your hand over the worn stone and step through into the medieval heart of Motovun.
