Makarska's main beach stretches in a long arc of fine pebbles along the bay, backed by a promenade under old pines, with the pale rock wall of Biokovo above. The water shifts from turquoise to deep blue, and across the channel lie the outlines of Brač and Hvar. Between two swims you fetch an ice cream on the promenade and end up staying longer than planned.
Stay into the evening: as the sun sinks behind the islands, the Biokovo wall blushes red for a few minutes.
