The long stone breakwater shelters Makarska's harbour and doubles as a walk above the sea: open Adriatic on one side, the riva, the old town front and the Biokovo wall on the other. A small harbour light marks the tip, and the Sumartin ferry slides past close enough to wave at. In the evening the town lights mirror in the calm basin.
Come just before sunset: Biokovo glows above the town and the ferry comes in with the last light.

A historic fortified site near Makarska, a witness to the area's turbulent past.

The statue of St Peter at the tip of the peninsula: the saint with his keys faces the channel, the sun sets behind him.
