The green moat ringing Karlovac's star-shaped old town.
Karlovac was laid out in the 16th century as a Renaissance fortress in the shape of a six-pointed star, and the moats of that star town can still be traced today. Long since drained, they are filled with green instead: lawns, trees and paths ring the old town. Walk a stretch of the moat and you are literally pacing the geometry of the old fortress.
Follow the moat all the way round: the green ring is a short walk and shows off the star shape best.
