Warnings are active in every mainland region, from Istria to Dubrovnik. Most are yellow, Kvarner and Istria stand at orange for thunderstorms.
Checked: 16 August 2026
The Croatian weather service currently has warnings out for every mainland region: heat, thunderstorms and wind, in changing combinations. Kvarner and Istria are at the orange level for thunderstorms, the remaining regions are yellow. Warnings are updated several times a day and can lift or tighten within hours.
What the colours mean
- Yellow: be aware. Ordinary summer weather, but keep an eye on it if you are on the water or in the mountains.
- Orange: be prepared. Plans outdoors should have an indoor alternative that day.
- Red: take action. Follow what the authorities say, not the plan you made yesterday.
Heat warnings matter most for anyone walking a city in the early afternoon. Old towns are stone, and stone holds the heat: Dubrovnik, Split and Zadar are all noticeably hotter at four in the afternoon than the forecast number for the region suggests.
