Five Dubrovnik swims that aren't Banje Beach

Banje is beautiful and busy. Here are the coves, ladders and swimming rocks where you'll find more sea than towels.

The postcard beach right under the Old Town is stunning, and in July it's packed by 10am. Dubrovnik's coastline hides dozens of quieter swims if you're willing to walk ten extra minutes or hop a short boat.

The cliff bars below the walls

Tucked into the seaward wall are a couple of tiny bars built onto the rocks. You climb down, order a cold drink, and slip straight into deep, clear water. Bring water shoes and a dry bag.

  • Lokrum island, a 15-minute ferry, pine shade and a saltwater lake.
  • Sveti Jakov, a longer walk down, far fewer people, sunset light on the walls.
  • Copacabana on Lapad, family-friendly, shallow, with facilities.
