In the Mrtvi kanal, the old arm of the Rječina's mouth, fishing boats and small yachts now bob side by side. Between the world wars, the border dividing Italian Rijeka from Yugoslav Sušak ran right here. Today you cross it in a few steps, over bridges where two states once met.
