Flights to Rijeka
Rijeka airport sits at Omišalj on the island of Krk, roughly 30 kilometres from the city. The island is joined to the mainland by the Krk bridge, so no ferry is involved, but the distance is real and worth planning for.

Getting from the airport into Rijeka
A shuttle connects arriving flights with the centre of Rijeka across the Krk bridge and takes around 45 minutes. If your destination is Krk town or one of the island resorts, you are already there and the transfer is much shorter, which is exactly why the airport exists where it does.
What you can reach from RJK
The island of Krk immediately, then Rijeka and Opatija on the mainland, the Kvarner bay and the island of Cres by ferry. For the northern Adriatic this is the closest airport, with Pula and Zagreb as the fallbacks when the season ends.
When the routes run
Rijeka is a summer low-cost airport with a compact route map. Direct connections cluster between May and September and often run once or twice a week. Outside that window there is very little scheduled traffic, and Zagreb becomes the practical arrival point for the Kvarner region.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Rijeka airport actually in Rijeka?
- No. It is at Omišalj on the island of Krk, around 30 kilometres from the city. The Krk bridge connects the island to the mainland, so you reach Rijeka by road in roughly 45 minutes without taking a ferry.
- Which airport is best for Opatija and the island of Krk?
- Rijeka, when it is in season. The airport is on Krk itself, so island destinations are a short drive, and Opatija is a little beyond Rijeka on the mainland. Between October and April the choice usually falls back to Zagreb.
